More Vintage!

Went to Bowral NSW to photograph Tulips as it is Springtime in Australia.
This was my look for the day.

Playing with the vintage look, floral dress, tan oxfords, bright red lipstick!

I'm very impressed with this Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in 635, Very Cherry. It's very long lasting, it doesn't dry out my lips and it smells good. Smells like vanilla and cherry.

What would you wear to a nice Spring Day Out? =)

Experimenting with Orange Eyeshadow

So! I bought most of the Maybelline Color tatoo cream eyeshadow. I'm still missing 2 colours. They have this Orange colour which looks fantastic. I wanted to create a spring ready look.

I ended up with this look:

Urban Decay Deluxe Palette

I got this for my birthday from my sister and Cameo. So excited to make a review about this. Aren't the colours just spectacular???

UD Deluxe Palette
Here is the Urban Decay 15th anniversary pallette just to compare the colours...

Swatches:

     Fishnet, Honey and Ransom

    Graffiti, Zero and Peace

Shag, Scratch and Underground... I took these photos twice as I couldn't get a true image of the colours. So one is with more light. The 2 dots on top of Shag and Scratch are the inglot eyeshadows at are very close in colour to these.
Scratch is very close to inglot's #397
Shag is very close to inglot's #407.

    Picture of the pallet's cover:

Overall, the pigmentation is great. Normal UD standards. However, Zero is a bit patchy. I heart the colours in this pallet. I'm a big fan of Urban Decay.

Illamasqua Bronzer Duo Review

It's my birthday month! Yipee! gives me an excuse to splurge a little bit ;-) SO! I ventured to Myer in Sydney to the Ilamasqua counter. "Makeup for your alter ego" is their tag line.

I wanted was curious about Illamasqua, so I decided to try it out. Then I found these Bronzer Duo. I wanted see how a pearly finished bronzer would look during day time. I was a bit hesitant at first because I'm not exactly a fan of shimmery bronzers.

The packaging looks quite nice, however overtime, fingerprints appear. I'm not too bothered by this though. I like the shape of it too!

When I swatched these on my hand, it is not very pigmented. I had to swipe my fingers several times to get this colour out (see picture)

Illamasqua Bronzer Duo Swatches
Glint is a very light subtle peach highlighter, very pretty. Somehow the powder formula is very intact that it's difficult to get a lot of product on your brush. Which is ok I suppose, you don't want too much product on your face. It is buildable. Burnish is bronze with peach undertones. Both appear really lovely on my cheeks, very fine... I was quite surprised at how natural it looks on. the bronzer doesn't look shimmery at all.

I'm comparing Burnish with this MAC Mineralize powder in Medium Deep. This is what I normally use for contouring. As you can see, the shimmer is not that much in comparison to a fully Matte powder.

I'm happy with this product! will re-purchase and recommend to my friends.

Black & Grey Smokey Eyes

I like looking at pictures of people. The good ones, I get drawn into and tend to stare at them. So, I was inspired to create my own images that hopefully in the future can inspire people to create art.

I've been practicing with my hubby's Canon 60D + Canon 50mm 1.4 lens. I want capture good portraits of my friends at the same time practicing my make up application.

This is my friend Kartini =) a great model! Here are some of the pictures that we have created:

Inglot Eye Shadow Review (part 2)

Ok, this is the second palette that I got from Inglot. This has the Blue/Pink/Purple shades:

Top, from left: #397, #48, #428, #420, #428
Bottom, from left: #399, #440, #375, #446, #452

Different angle...

Swatches and Review:

From Left: #399, it's a pinky mauve with pearl finish.
#440, it's a pretty pearly lilac colour. I couldn't resist! I have to get this...I like lilacs, lavender and all things purple! (the picture does not display the actual colour when applied. It looks like the colour on the eyes shadow pan above)
#375, matte purple. Nice shade, however the quality is patchy. It's still useable, however it takes time to blend to get that nice even shade. This is the only colour that is substandard... I would not suggest you to purchase this.
#446, dark purple with pearl finish. Very good contour colour or for purple smokey eyes. I've used this with the #375 and it turned out really nice. However, as mentioned, #375 needs to be blended more than normal eye shadows.
#452, a purple/burgundy shade. I love this! It looks like wine. This colour is so in fashion this Autumn/Winter season in Australia. I could blend this with purples, golds or even blue!

From Left: #428, a midnight blue shade with pearl finish. Lovely, lovely colour! I can already imagine this combined with the greyish colour beside it + black for a smokey eyed look.
#420, a silvery grey with blue violet undertones with pearl finish.
#428, a iced baby blue with pearl finish.
#48,  Baby pink, pearl finish but with glitters. I'm normally a bit careful when selecting eye shadows with glitter as it might not look good in photos (it will reflect too much light, might make your lid look oily) This one is not too glittery when applied. The glitters are super fine.
#397, this is a neutral pink/peach colour with pearl finish. I would use this as a hilight colour on the brow bone or the inner corners of the eyes.

Overall comment: Inglot is a great product! It will last us forever because of the size of the eye shadow pans. I love the fact that I can choose my own colour for my palette. It's also stackable. So if you have multiple palettes of the same size, you can stack them together. The magnets are quite strong. Slide the lid of, rather than pulling them apart...

Inglot Eyeshadow Reviews

I've recently purchased some Inglott Eye shadows having discovered them recently in Chatswood, Sydney.

Inglot has this Freedom Palette system where you can select any eyeshadow colours you want and put them in a 2-20 eyeshadow palette. The Palette of 10 costs $20 and each eye shadow pan is $10. It's a lot more expensive here in Australia in comparison to the US (as usual.... so unfair!)

I got 2x 10 eyeshadow palette. My first one is a Green/Copper/Gold set:

top, from left: #430, #405, #407, #605, #328
bottom, from left: #41, #384, #418, #327, #352

Swatches & Review

From left on the swatch above
#605, It is a coppery rust colour with pearl finish.
#407 A coral pink/ salmon colour with pearl finish.
#405, Bronze/ Copper with pearl finish.
#430 yellow gold colour with also a pearl finish. These are very pigmented and buttery texture.

From left on the swatch above
#357, a versatile brown colour with reddish undertones. It is very similar to my favourite BUCK in Urban Decay 1's eyeshadow palette. I could use this as contour colour. It is one of the better quality matte eyeshadow in their collection. It's not patchy when applied.
#328, Matte beige colour. This is a great base colour. It is buttery soft in texture.
#327, Dark brown with matte finish. This is also a versatile shadow as it can be used for the eyebrows. It can be use to deepen the crease of the eyes.
#418, a dark olive green shadow with pearl finish. This is one of my favourites in this collection! It is so pigmented.. It's got a bit of gold tinge to it. It will look great with the gold shadow #405.
#384, is a matte leaf green on the lighter side. It is also quite pigmented, not patchy. Very nice with the lime green shadow #41.
#42, is a lime green shadow with sparkles! This is also a very nice shade!

Overall, I love all the colours and quality of each of the eye shadows in this collection. I like the fact that I can just choose my eye shadows and pop them into the palette, or change them around later on.

My only complaint is the PRICE here in Australia. This is still cheaper than MAC shadows and it's comparable to MAC or Urban Decay. However, the price here is still almost double in comparison to the US.

Makeup for Black & White Photography

This is a session in my makeup school about black and white photography. This is a bit tricky because we have to convert the colours into black and white. So pastel colours will appear white on the picture. The really dark colours appear black.

Inspiration for these look is Marilyn Monroe. Very vintage, pin up girl look. Perfect dark eyeliner, just a hint of brown eye shadow and Perfect RED lips!

To make the perfect lips you need: Lip Liner, Lip Stick and Lipgloss. However, for the purpose of black and white photography, we'll skip the lipgloss because it will appear too light on the picture.

Step 1: Apply red lip liner on the lips, starting on the upper and middle lip, or the "cupid's bow". Then make sure your line is straight when you're outlining the lips. Fill the lips in with the lip liner,

Step 2. Apply the red lipstick on the lip liner. Making sure that it stays inside the lip liner.

Step 3: practice, practice practice! You might not get the perfect lips on the first go but don't worry, practice makes perfect.

This is what the picture look like in colour:
